The club was founded in 1964 to provide affordable fly fishing, pioneering “catch and release” practices to reduce costs. Initially based at Farmoor 1 reservoir, the club lost its lease in 2007 due to rising rent and privatization pressures.
Anticipating this, the club secured a 99-year lease on a disused gravel pit in 1987, now Darlow Water, funded by member contributions and grants. Over time, this site was transformed into a scenic trout fishery with river access. Facilities were progressively upgraded, including replacing the wooden lodge with a permanent one in 2004 and enhancing it with a glass balustrade in 2020. Boats and a jetty were introduced in 2005, with further jetty improvements made in 2020.
